Brain Damage Records was created in 1978 to provide an alternative path for recording artists to produce, publish,
and distribute their music. Brain Damage is a non-profit recording label, with all releases managed by the
artists who choose to distribute their music through the label. Unlike traditional music publishers, Brain Damage
Records takes no profits whatsoever from music sales. With no profit motive, the Brain Damage label allows
artists 100% control over what they record, when they release it, how they distribute it, and how they market it.
Brain Damage Records provides the lowest possible cost for recording, manufacturing and distribution of recorded
music in small quantities, with the least possible overhead and zero artistic interference. Brain Damage Records
artists even retain control over their own publishing rights. This approach is useful to alternative artists
who make music that may not be considered commercially viable, artists who seek complete freedom of expression,
and start-up artists who do not seek or expect commercial-level distribution. If you love music, like to support
small local artists, and/or believe in freedom of expression, then please support the musicians who choose to
distribute their music through Brain Damage Records. |

But you can also order any CD or tape that is listed as "available" or "featured" in the Brain Damage Records catalog directly from Brain Damage Records. Most BDR CDs are priced at $10 each and tapes at $5, plus shipping costs, but pricing varies so you will need to send an email request listing what you would like and we will reply with your total cost and expected shipping date. Because our mission is to encourage musicians rather than create trouble for musicians, we have not attempted and do not currently intend to take any action to discourage the U.K. entity from doing business under the Brain Damage Records name. However, the fact that there may be two different entities using the name Brain Damage Records could lead to confusion. The Brain Damage Records UK entity seems to offer primarily dance and hardcore music. As of July 2007, the only Internet presence for Brain Damage Records UK appeared to be a My Space page (myspace.com/djdisownedbraindamagerecords). Perhaps BDR-UK is as commercially-challenged as we are; they certainly have similar sense of company naming humor. However, to be clear this Brain Damage Records is located in the USA and uses braindamagerecords.net and braindamagerecords.com as its home addresses. |
